Get ready for the ultimate #throwbackthursday with a twist! At Lunde’s Peoria Volkswagen, we’re thrilled to announce that the Volkswagen brand is bringing back an icon—the Volkswagen Bus! The Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier in the year, and is a fully-electric spin on the old classic.
“After presentations at the global motor shows in Detroit and Geneva, we received a large number of letters and emails from customers who said, ‘please build this car’, The Microbus has long been part of the California lifestyle. Now we’re bringing it back by reinventing it as an electric vehicle,” said Volkswagen CEO Dr. Herbert Diess.
Just as the concept car that debuted at the auto shows, the production model of the I.D. BUZZ will feature its batteries mounted in the vehicle floor. Because its electric drive components don’t take up that much space, the vehicle has along wheelbase with short overhands that allow for a massively spacious interior!
A Modern Spin On a Volkswagen Favorite
“The vehicle looks like a compact commercial van on the outside, even though it offers the generous interior space of a large SUV,” said Diess.
“Emotional cars are very important for the brand. We are selling loads of Beetles still, particularly in US markets. But we will also have the Microbus that we showed, which we have recently decided we will build,” said Diess.
