What Do These Warning Lights Mean?

Have you ever looked at your dashboard while driving around Peoria in your Volkswagen and seen an unfamiliar indicator appear? It may light up yellow, red, green, or blue, and these indicators are important to understand to ensure an optimally running vehicle. It can be nerve-wracking to have these indicators show up, especially if you're not sure how urgent they might be in diagnosing a problem with your vehicle. That's why we want to explain to our customers some key indicators that might appear on your dashboard, and when and how you should address them.

Indicators

Description

s

This picture is the tire pressure indicator, and it signals that the pressure in one or more of your tires is not at the appropriate level. You can check what the appropriate level should be in your owner's manual, and find a gas station with tire pressure stations. Most of these stations are free, and you simply attach the tire pressure hose from the station to the valve on your wheels until the pressure monitor indicates the correct number.

Bulb Failure Warning

When you see this image, this means you have a bulb failure occurring. If it's flashing, it means the headlight leveling or AFS is defective. Check your lights throughout your car for signs of the bulb failure. Figuring out how to replace a light bulb on your Volkswagen will depend on where the burned out bulb is located, and you can easily schedule service at our Peoria service center to fix it.

Battery Warning

This signal indicates a battery error, or that there is a battery charging system failure. Without a proper functioning battery or alternator, your car will not run as it should. To fix this, have both your battery and alternator tested by a technician at our dealership to see which is failing.

Oil Level Warning

This image will appear on your dashboard to indicate that you should have your engine oil checked or that it is too low. In any case, you should bring in your vehicle to our service center to have one of our technicians check the quality of oil as well as the oil level.

Battery Warning

Another you might see this picture is to indicate that your battery level is low. This is not an ideal situation, as it can mean your battery might die unexpectedly while you're on the road. To take action, bring in your vehicle for service to have the battery terminals, alternator belt, and battery condition checked.

Coolant Warning

This indicator warns that your coolant level is low or high, and that the temperature has exceeded normal limits. You'll want to stop and check the coolant levels, and bring them to the appropriate level according to your owner's manual. You can also bring in your vehicle for service to balance the coolant level.
