When you set aside the inevitable sunburns, blazing sunshine, and sweltering temperatures, there’s a lot to love about summer time in Phoenix. Whether you’re a Phoenix native or just visiting for the summer, Lunde’s Peoria Volkswagen has a few reasons to love summer time in Arizona.

Salt River Tubing
Salt River tubing is a great way to cool off in the Arizona heat and have fun with your family or friends at the same time. Drive over to Tonto National Forest in Mesa for entry and tube rental, and don’t forget to put on plenty of sunscreen! The cost is $17 per person for a day of tubing, and facilities are open seven days per week from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
Chase Field’s Roof
Of course, baseball is one of America’s favorite pastimes, but when you think of sitting at a baseball game during the summer months, it may not seem too appealing. Have no fear, though, the engineers over at Chase Field thought of that! Even when it’s downright smoldering outside, Arizona Diamondbacks fans don’t have to suffer while trying to catch a game. Chase Field features a 9-million lb. retractable steel roof. On most days when temperatures are astronomical, the ballpark shuts out the blazing sun and blasts some much-appreciated air conditioning.

Night Hiking
When the sun goes down, the desert comes alive! Night hiking is a great way to get some outdoorsy exercise, take in Arizona’s beautiful landscapes, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife—all without burning up under the sun. Make sure to bring water and a headlamp. You can jump on a few easy treks, like the Alta Trail and Holbert Trail. You can even visit the Apache Vista Loop Trail in the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve.
World-class Museums
If you don’t want to spend a day outdoors, Arizona offers plenty of museums that cover a huge range of interests. The plus side? They have really nice air conditioning. Visit the Heard, which specializes in Native American art and history, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Arizona Science Center, and more.

Monsoons
Phoenix’s signature storm season brings some mild relief from the heat. The monsoons bring fantastic lightning shows and random torrential downpours that are dazzling to everyone, but especially photographers. Monsoon season is nature’s cure to the months of 100-plus temps.
