How to Check Your Transmission Fluid
A healthy transmission keeps things running smoothly under the hood–literally. Your transmission controls the way that your vehicle shifts gears, and a faulty automatic transmission can cause your car to hesitate, slip gears, or shift less smoothly.
The experts at our Peoria service center can always spot a faulty transmission, but they also know that these symptoms can be caused by low or burned out transmission fluid. So, how do you tell the difference?
Start by checking your transmission fluid! While the car is warm, pull out the transmission dipstick and dab the fluid onto your finger. It should be pink or red in color, and feel smooth when you rub it between your fingers; if it’s a dirty brown color or feels gritty, your fluid needs to be flushed and replaced. Give it a quick sniff, as well, to see if it smells burned; this is another symptom of fluid that needs to be replaced.
If the fluid seems good to go, then wipe off the dipstick, replace it, and pull it out again. This time, check if the fluid is between the minimum and maximum marks. It’s important to wipe and replace the dipstick, as sloshing around when the engine is running can give you a false reading. If it’s low, use a funnel to add more until it’s full. Be sure to add the right fluid, and add it gradually as not to overfill it.

When you push the brake pedal in your vehicle, you take it for granted that the brakes will respond and slow your vehicle down so that you can come to a safe stop. While this necessary function is easy to take for granted, there are actually many components that work together to make this happen.
At our Peoria Volkswagen service center, we’re well versed in every aspect of the braking process, including the fluid your vehicle uses to create pressure and control your brakes. Without enough good, clean brake fluid, your vehicle will brake less responsively or, worse, fail to stop at all.
As a vehicle owner, it’s a good idea to get in the habit of checking your brake fluid. The reservoir is typically small and translucent; it should be clearly labeled, if you have any doubt. It should also have markings for minimum and maximum levels. Your fluid should be between these levels.
If the fluid is too low but you can still see it in the reservoir, top it off with the appropriate brake fluid from a fresh container. If it’s below the reservoir, though, you risk air bubbles if you simply top it off. Similarly, if the fluid appears dirty or discolored–it should be clear or translucent–then you need to have your system flushed.

Our team has fallen head over heels for the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas since is arrived in our Peoria showroom last year, and so have our customers! Considering how much love everyone seems to have for this full-size SUV, we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the Atlas family grow–and it seems like we might be getting our wish.
While we don’t have a whole lot to on, we’re not just speculating, either; Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America’s North American Region, recently suggested that the “Atlas family” might be growing soon. During an event for the upcoming seventh generation Volkswagen Jetta, Woebcken alluded to plans to expand the Atlas nameplate with a volume-selling B-segment entry.
Woebcken also stated during this year’s New York Auto Show that Volkswagen has plans to produce a five-seat SUV at its Chattanooga, TN, plant, although there’s no confirmation of the vehicle’s nameplate. Needless to say, this is exciting news for the team at our Peoria Volkswagen dealership.
This might be the only official indication we have of the automaker’s plans right now, but other unofficial evidence has us pretty excited. As reported by Autolog, Volkswagen has recently filed trademark paperwork for a number of names, including “Atlas Cross Sport” and “Atlas Allsport.”

Of course, it goes without saying that we’d be thrilled to see the Atlas nameplate expand into a family of vehicles. Given how tremendous the debut of the 2018 Atlas has been, we can only imagine how exciting it would be to see the nameplate grow.
The 2018 Atlas brings drivers a sprawling cabin with seating for seven passengers across three rows, along with a powerful performance that we can’t help but love. With 235 horsepower and up to 5,000 lbs of towing capacity, this SUV means business. We’d love to see that same spirit take on new form to fit different drivers’ needs!
