Temperatures in Arizona can reach astronomical heights, and they can be tough on your car.  Everything from the paint all the way down to the tires can be affected by the harsh conditions brought on by hot weather.  At Lunde’s Peoria Volkswagen, our VW dealer in Phoenix, we believe it’s important for drivers to know how to take proper care of their vehicles through the rising temps!

During the warmer months, antifreeze, or engine coolant, is the number one thing that drivers should stay on top of.  Most modern vehicles have a closed system for coolant, so checking it or topping it off is easy!  Check out your owner’s manual for the specific location of the coolant; the coolant reservoir is usually located under the hood.  Ensure that the coolant level is between the minimum and maximum markings; add more if necessary.  Remember to avoid opening the radiator cap or coolant tank lid when the engine is hot!

Help Your Volkswagen Beat the Heat

Tire pressure is another important thing to regularly check during the summer.  As outside temperatures climb, the air in your vehicle’s tires expands.  Tires that are under- or overinflated can reduce your car’s handling capability, generate excessive heat, or cause a blowout.  Check out the recommended tire pressure label on the doorjamb of your car or glove compartment, or find out from the owner’s manual.

Keeping the exterior of the vehicle cool is another imperative thing for Phoenix VW drivers to remember.  The heat of the Arizona summer sun can cause cosmetic damage.  When you can, park in a garage or under an awning to protect the paint and interior materials from sun damage.  Regularly waxing your vehicle with UV protection can also help to reduce the damaging effects from the sun

Of course, the skilled service technicians at Lunde’s Peoria Volkswagen can take care of any of these issues for you.  For more information or to schedule a service appointment with us, contact our Phoenix VW dealership at (602) 714-3968.
