If you find yourself in a situation where you’re car won’t start, here’s what to do:
- Take out your jumper cables
- Find a good Samaritan who is willing to help you with the jump
- Put both cars in “park” or “neutral” with their ignitions turned off and emergency brakes on
- Remove the caps from each vehicle’s battery and connect the cables
- Attach one red clip to the positive terminal on your vehicle’s battery, and attach the other to the positive terminal on the other car’s battery
- Attach one black clip to the negative terminal on the other car’s battery, and attach the other to an unpainted, metal surface on your vehicle—away from the carburetor or the battery
- Start your vehicle
If you go through all of that and your vehicle still won’t start, it more than likely means that it’s time for a new car battery.
